World T20: Batting took us down against New Zealand, says MS Dhoni

Updates and Details for World T20: for India and New Zealand T20 Loss of India:

Yesterday, the first World T20 match was played between the team India and New Zealand. New Zealand won the match by 47 runs. Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni blamed his batsmen for their shocking loss saying that “Batting let them down” in the opening match of the ICC World T20.

New Zealand won the toss and electing to bat. They scored 126/7 runs in 20 overs. So India had to make 127 runs to win the match. But they couldn’t make it and only scored 79/10 runs in 18.1 overs. It was the lowest score of the Indian team in ICC World Cup T20.

“Batting let us down. It wasn’t as if the pitch was unplayable, there were some soft dismissals”, said Dhoni and added that “There were no partnerships in the middle. They bowled well but out batsmen could have applied more. It was a decent score but not impossible. The batting just let us down.”

India has just won the title of Asia cup, so it had been solid favorites to become the first team ever to win the World T20 title for the second time. But New Zealand’s slow home crowd in Nagpur, with left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, started the show with a four-wicket take in a miserly time.

“They bowled well, exploited the conditions, but we lacked adaptability, we could have applied ourselves a bit more”, said MS Dhoni.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was extremely pleased with the fighting performance from his side. He said, “I am very pleased. It was a tough surface. With the bat whatever score was going to be tough, we would have liked to have a few more. We wanted to be aggressive at the start, the format dictates that, we may reflect on that though and try and do it better.”
